Bing Webmaster Tools for Nashville Businesses

On this page

Whatever share of your searches Bing handles, the cost of showing up there properly is small, which makes it a sensible afternoon of work for a Nashville business. The steps are few and finite: verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools by importing it from Google Search Console, let Bing use the sitemap you already have, claim and complete a Bing Places listing by importing your Google Business Profile, and turn on IndexNow so new and updated pages are reported to Bing as they change. None of it takes attention away from Google, which stays the primary surface.

Why the effort is worth it

The honest case for Bing avoids inflated promises. What it offers is a favorable ratio: most of the setup is imported from systems you already run, so a small amount of work covers another search engine and Bing Maps. Treat it as an incremental channel and measure it that way.

Setup: import from Search Console

The fastest route skips manual verification. In Bing Webmaster Tools, choose to import your sites from Google Search Console. Bing’s help text explains that it needs you to sign in to Search Console with “View-Only permissions,” that it will “import sitemaps submitted on Google Search Console,” and that “we will not be importing any site analytics related data” (Bing Webmaster Tools help). Imported sites arrive verified, so there is no meta tag, file upload or DNS record to add by hand.

Because the sitemaps come across with the import, Bing starts from the same list of URLs you already maintain for Google. If you add sites or sitemaps later, submit them in Bing Webmaster Tools directly.

Bing Places for Business

Bing Places is Microsoft’s local listing product. Microsoft describes it as “a free online platform where businesses can create and manage their listings to appear in Bing search results and Bing Maps.” On October 3, 2025, it announced a new Bing Places experience with a faster, more reliable import from Google and a Recommendation Tool that suggests high-impact details to add to a listing (Introducing the New Bing Places for Business).

For a Nashville business with a verified Business Profile, importing is the right move. Sign in with the Google account that controls the profile, let Bing bring across the name, address, phone, hours and other details, then review the listing against the recommendations and fill any gaps. An imported listing is a starting point, not a finished one. Keep it in step with your Business Profile whenever hours or details change, so both maps show the same business.

IndexNow

IndexNow is a protocol for telling participating search engines that a page has been added, updated or deleted. IndexNow.org describes it as “an easy way for websites owners to instantly inform search engines” about “latest content changes on their website,” and lists support from “Microsoft Bing, Naver, Seznam.cz, Yandex, Yep” (IndexNow.org). For a Nashville business publishing service pages, seasonal updates or event content, it shortens the wait between publishing and Bing noticing.

Bing’s IndexNow page says you may already have it, and it lists third-party WordPress plugins that can enable it, including the IndexNow plugin, Yoast, RankMath, AIOSEO and SEOPress, along with options for Shopify and for sites on Cloudflare (How to add IndexNow to your website). Check your plugin’s settings before installing another one, and make sure pages you have deliberately excluded with noindex are not being submitted.

A sitemap and IndexNow do different jobs. The sitemap is the full list of URLs a search engine can work through on its own schedule; IndexNow is a notification sent when a specific URL changes. Use both.

How Bing differs

Bing ranks pages with its own systems, so a page can sit in a different position on Bing than on Google. Treat any difference you see in your own reports as something to investigate, not as a separate optimization playbook. The fundamentals that serve you on Google, clear and relevant content, sound technical signals and an accurate business listing, carry over, and no tactic that promises to game one engine is worth the risk.

Reporting

Bing Webmaster Tools reports impressions, clicks and queries for Bing, much as Search Console does for Google. Review it separately so you can see Bing as the incremental channel it is instead of blending it into one number. Watching both side by side can reveal searches where you do noticeably better on one engine than the other, which sometimes points to easy fixes.
